Polychrome painted papier-mâché puppet depicting a female figure with black hair and a bodice.
Puppet puppets appeared in the second half of the 18th century and served as supports for headdresses when not being worn. Because the puppet’s shape resembled that of a real head, the headdress remained well-pressed and in good shape; thus, milliners and headdress ironers frequently used puppets in their work.
