Cast Iron Doorstop “Little Sitting Bulldog” – Hubley Manufacturing Co. circa 1910
This charming cast iron doorstop depicts a French bulldog sitting upright, with its ears pricked and a curious gaze.
Produced around 1910 by the prestigious Hubley Manufacturing Company in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1894 by John Hubley, the company became famous for its exceptionally high-quality cast iron toys and household items. The manufacturing process was highly technical: artisans first carved a wooden model to create an impression in fine sand, before pouring in molten iron heated to over 1600°C (3,200°F). Each piece was then sent to the decorating department where colorists applied several coats of paint to bring the animal to life, making each Hubley doorstop a true little collectible sculpture.
