“Hairdresser’s session”, 18th century

Eglomised mirror with a genre scene, a hairdresser’s session, carved giltwood frame.

The art of verre églomisé consists of applying gold or silver leaf and paint to the back of a glass to create refined decorative effects. Although this technique dates back to Antiquity, it was the French decorator Jean-Baptiste Glomy who popularized it in the 18th century.
