Venetian églomisé mirror, 18th century

Elegant Venetian églomisé mirror, richly decorated with a carved giltwood frame in the Rococo style.

The art of verre églomisé involves applying gold or silver leaf and paint to the back of a glass to create refined decorative effects. Although this technique dates back to Antiquity, it was the French decorator Jean-Baptiste Glomy who popularized it in the 18th century.
