Pair of cast-iron vases

The Val d’Osne foundry specialized in the production of art furniture and urban ornaments (candelabra, fountains, benches). It was notably thanks to this company that the concept of “fonte d’art” was born, combining the high resistance of the material with reduced production costs, thereby enabling the serial edition of monumental pieces.

In parallel, the foundry deployed its expertise in statuary and garden ornaments, which were distributed internationally through its famous commercial catalogues and its participation in various World’s Fairs. Val d’Osne would establish itself as the most important art foundry of the 19th century.

This pair of urns rests on square bases. The body is accentuated by a relief decoration of large stylized shells, from which rise two handles formed by chimeras.
